swappy goodness!

IMG_0988, originally uploaded by Ashleyrox n stuff.

I joined a box swapping group on Ravelry and it was my turn with the box. I was so excited about it and then it didn't show up! so I tracked it and our mailman took it back to the post office without even trying to deliver it and "left notice" to boot! (still haven't found the notice, argh) So, Tim went a picked it up for me Monday morning and left it in my car. Glad I went to lunch late and was alone in the parking lot because I had to SQEEEE when I saw it! Of course I opened it up right then and there, I was excited.
I had fun going through it and adding my stuff, I hope the people behind me have as much fun as I did and love the stuff I added.
I got a skein of Knitpicks wool of the Andes, a skein of peaches n cream (in a color I didn't already have, wow) 2 skeins of a yarn that feels like suede and another wool that I'm not familiar with. I also snagged knitting needles that light up a huge crochet hook and some vintage embroidery transfers( one bee's which I kind of collect because of my B) and day of the week one because, well I have wanted some of these for a LONG time!) Can't wait to do these for my new kitchen! and glow in the dark sheep, they are like those stars you see everywhere but sheep! How cool! I also grabbed a copy of Debbie Bliss from '09, pretty cool. I just notice the bookmark Kristen snagged isn't in the photo, she collects bookmarks so of course she had to have it!

Finished a book, a Christmas ornament and a sweet face.

Last night I finished reading The Angels Of Morgan Hill, I loved this book! I have already passed it on to my mom because it was so good and because of Henry, a character in the story that reminded me of my grandpa. This was a story of overcoming bad to be a family, which is what
this world needs more of.

Now for the sweet face, This is Harper-Lee, she is a special dog indeed, when she was a tiny pup someone dumped her on a road out in the middle of nowhere. She was standing in the middle of the road wagging her tiny tail when I come along, with no homes in site AND being in the middle of the road I knew she would last no time out there so I scooped her up, posted ads on my Facebook and a couple of other places. We could not find her a home so here is is at approximately 5 to 6 months old
and spoiled rotten, I can't believe how smart she is and she has our Great Dane wrapped around her little tri-colored paw!

Last, Bailey wanted me to find her an ornament to make for Kristen in our
family ornament exchange and while looking I found this pattern for a little crochet tree. Super fast project and I think it looks pretty cute on our tree!

November Heat and a good book.

Today it was hot, around 75 or 80. I wore shorts to work, we have the air conditioning on. Next week its supposed to be in the 30's. The weather is crazy! Last week we were wearing coats and freezing. So strange.
Also I am reading The Angels of Morgan Hill, a very good book by Donna VanLeere about a family in a small town in Tennessee that has taken in young black boy who family dies in a fire learning to overcome others hate.

Not much happening

Not a whole lot going on, we are planning a move in about 2 years, it looks like Oklahoma this time, we are ready to go now but have to tie up some loose ends here, Tim's youngest daughter will finish high school here and hopefully we will have sold off the livestock and be ready to downsize as we plan on buying a smaller home since it will just be Tim, Bailey and I. We are all very excited.

Facebook and blogging

I used to blog at least once a week, even if no one was reading it, then Facebook entered my life, now though ,you can link your Facebook to you blog! Hopefully I can get back into the habit of blogging.
I listened to a Radio Lab Shorts this week about how people express themselves with writing and brain usage and how it changes with illnesses and age and it got me to thinking if you can change the end result with work, kind of like sit ups for the brain! So, I vow to try and push myself through writing and Reading and just plian ol' learning something new.
My grandmother on my dads side was very much in full capacity of her learning and brain use until she died at 93 due to nothing health related and my grandparents on my moms side have had memory issues so I do see how this could effect me. I also remember my dads mom being a reader and I do credit her mental health to this fact.
I guess what all this means to me is I need to push my brain just a little harder, and hey, if it doesn't help what could it hurt?
